Editorial Review (from Amazon.com)

In 1878, two young stage magicians clash in the dark during the course of a fraudulent séance. From this moment on, their lives become webs of deceit and revelation as they vie to outwit and expose one another.

Their rivalry will take them to the peaks of their careers, but with terrible consequences. In the course of pursuing each other's ruin, they will deploy all the deception their magicians' craft can command--the highest misdirection and the darkest science.

Blood will be spilled, but it will not be enough. In the end, their legacy will pass on for generations...to descendants who must, for their sanity's sake, untangle the puzzle left to them.

WriterDan thinks this book is Good.

This was a very interesting book. It was extremely well written and had a very engaging plot. There were only a few characters with which the reader becomes familiar, and each are engaging and their thought processes are realistic. The unusual thing about this book was that there were really two stories that the reader learns about. The main character, who's story is contained in the the first part, never really learns about the secondary, historical story that is presented as a majority of the book. So, the arrival of understanding only comes to the reader and not the main character. The actual "story" is very short, and the history behind why the main story can happen comprises a large majority of the book's pages. The history is, however, quite intriguing and very entertaining in and of itself. The author keeps you guessing as to what is happening, and why things seem the way that they are. I would recommend this book to most anyone that is looking for a good read. I think that the ending of the book could have been a bit more clear, and better developed, and so I'm giving it a rating of good.
