Editorial Review (from Amazon.com)

A new collection from David Sedaris is cause for jubilation. His recent move to Paris has inspired hilarious pieces, including Me Talk Pretty One Day, about his attempts to learn French. His family is another inspiration. You Cant Kill the Rooster is a portrait of his brother who talks incessant hip-hop slang to his bewildered father. And no one hones a finer fury in response to such modern annoyances as restaurant meals presented in ludicrous towers and cashiers with 6-inch fingernails. Compared by The New Yorker to Twain and Hawthorne, Sedaris has become one of our best-loved authors.

so funny

Rebecca Adler thinks this book is Excellent.

As with many books by David Sedaris, this is a book of memoirs in the form of essays. Me talk pretty one day starts off with the author attending speech classes for his lisp. But instead of fixing his lisp, Sedaris buys a thesaurus and learns how to replace words and phrases like "I'm thorry (sorry)" with "I apoligize." In essence he learns not to use the letter "s" anymore. All of the essays are well written and hilarious. Some seemed out of place in the book, but for the most part I really enjoyed this book.

I especially enjoyed the second half of the book when Sedaris travels to France and basically has to learn to speak all over again. If you've ever traveled to France you will relate well to the observations and experiences of Sedaris. And you'll laugh out loud so be careful where you read this one.

Nikki thinks this book is Excellent.

My sister and I, not noticing or knowing much about the author of the book right away, thought this book would be a wonderful tale of a person with a speech impediment that somehow learns to talk... normal?

We were wrong.

This book is absolutely hilarious. His anecdotes for each chapter are so funny, and it is definitely a laugh-out-loud book. He's the kind of guy that would rather stay home and make curtains with his mom and sister than play sports with the other boys. And who could forget the chapter in which he "goes number 2" at a friend's house, and it won't flush down.

I really recommend this book, as do I his other books. You'll want to pass it on to your friends when you've finished as well.
