Celebrate the 60th anniversary of Orwell’s masterpiece 1984Written in 1948, 1984 was George Orwell’s chilling prophecy about the future. And while 1984 has come and gone, Orwell’s narrative is timelier than ever. 1984 presents a startling and haunting vision of the world, so powerful that it is completely convincing from start to finish. No one can deny the power of this novel, its hold on the imaginations of multiple generations of readers, or the resiliency of its admonitions—a legacy that seems only to grow with the passage of time.

If you only read one book in your lifetime, make sure it is this one. A Classic, rightly so. Scarily Authentic to todays society.

I'm greatly in awe of George Orwell after reading this book. His insight into a futuristic totalitarian state is quite frightening. Dont be too surprised to find parallels...;)

This is one of those books that will always be around and rightly so. It will make you feel sick when you realise how much we like Orwell's fictional world. Excellent writing, excellent plot, good characters and very insightful. Much of the novel is quotable as I found numerous one liners I would repeat to my friends. It is very memorable and I find this the mark of a good book, when I can remember passages of text that have affected me and made me think. If you want someone to tell you what you already know but put it into words (ding ding for anyone who gets the reference) then read 1984.

I find the countries in the book are similar to those of modern day except less fragmented but in just as much control of their people. If you get the chance read it.
Rebecca Adler thinks this book is Good.
I think most people have already read this book, so I don't have to say much. If you've ever wondered where the term Big Brother came from and haven't figured it out yet, read this book.
I'm sad to say that it took me until age 27 to read this book, however I'm glad I waited because I think I caught a lot more than I would have if I'd read it when I was younger. Orwell has done a wonderful job of constructing a totalitarian world that makes the sane people feel insane for noticing the government's constant hand in the daily lives of its people. Our world may not be as dreary, but we certainly have the televisions telling us what to think and how to behave on a constant basis. This book will make you wonder where we're headed...
