Dale Brayden thinks this book is Worth Reading.
An 18 year old school girl missing for 11 weeks is found dead - murdered by strangulation. Superintendant Lambert and Detective Seageant Hook soon learn that at least 4 people had motive to kill the girl, including a teacher and the headmaster of her school.
The book has the formulas I've come to expect already from Gregson: the suspect being interrogated rambling on and on, 'expecting he would have been interrupted'; the body found in water long after the murder; the long paean to the virtues of the police in the face of vice and crime.
Still, it's well written and a good police procedural. You're given all you need to identify the killer early on, but unless you're really paying attention you don't actually figure it out until you're supposed to - at the end of the chapter prior to the whole scenario being spelled out for you.
