Editorial Review (from Amazon.com)

Hardcore punk was an underground tribal movement created with anger and passion but ultimately destroyed by infighting and dissonance. This oral history includes photographs, discographies, and a complete national perspective on the genre.

This is a really interesting account looking back at the formation and demise of the US hardcore scene (1980-6) from those involved in it. Blush experienced this first hand touring with his band No Trend. The main chapters are taken up with the regional scenes, and the difficult situations and naivety of the main bands/labels/promoters involved, as well as the violence which inundated the scene early on, amongst the fans themselves, outsiders who just wanted to hit people and from the police. If you can tolerate the amount of swearing and the almost cut and paste layout (it is hardcore after all) it puts into perspective the amazing efforts of a lot of disparate kids to make their voices heard when compared to todays style based alternative scenes.
