When I read this book it made me want to turn gay. Jane Austen's idea of how society women and men should act is atrocious. Her views are of a feminist nature, only with out being profound. The story is dry, drawn out, and dull. She has no artistic style in her writing. The "social commentary" that Austen tries to point out, is not original, rather is it just over done statements repeated to give the effect that she wants change. As a pure literary classic, yes this book is on the list, but not one that I would outwardly read.

For me, whos motherlanguage isn't english it was a bit exhausting to read this uncommon use of english. but nevertheless: MR DARCY IS HOT.
naturally the story will haunt my imagination of how love stories have to be for ever and ever.
Pride and prejudices is the ultimate base for all those "boys meets girls and they don't like each other but at last find together" stories.

When it was first published, Pride and Prejudice was denounced as a trashy piece of fictionalised gossip. Today however it is regarded as one of the definitive novels of the Victorian era, an entertaining and refreshingly honest tale of a family with four daughters and their endeavours at finding themselves suitable bridegrooms. From the reticent and beautiful Jane and the sensible and grounded Elizabeth to giddy-headed Kitty and Lydia, their very garrulous, unsophisticated mother and refined but largely helpless father, Austen's powers of narration and description take you through the gamut of human emotions, characterisation and family life as it existed in the nineteenth century.
I also highly recommend the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice - a brilliant six-episode film version. If you haven't already read the book, it will send you straight to the nearest bookstore, and if you have read it, it'll be an even more delightful watch.

I haven't read the book, but I've seen the movie, twice! This is one of the best love stories I've seen. I assume the book is very similar to the movie and hope that all who read it enjoy it as much as I did!

Jane Austen is probably one of my favorite authors, and Pride and Prejudice is definitely one of her best. The plot is compelling and the writing beautiful.
