Editorial Review (from Amazon.com)

Kahlil Gibran and the Arabic writer May Ziadah never met, but distance could not dim their love. This collection of exquisite letters is beautifully illustrated with Gibran's pen-and-ink sketches.

Love Letters is, as the name clearly suggests, a collection of letters written by Lebanese writer and poet Kahlil Gibran to Arabic writer May Ziadah. Though her letters to him are sadly enough, not included (her estate would not permit that), we are able to conjecture quite well what she must have said to him by his replies to her. The letters are filled with poetry and poetic prose, philosophy and abstract yet familiar musings on life and love. Gibran and Ziadah were, upon every honest construction of the term, "in love" with each other -- yet they never met, never spoke, never interacted by any means other than the written. They sent each other manuscripts of their work, invited and appreciated criticism, and shared in each other's lives intimately and affectionately - yet their longing to be together was never to be fulfilled.

Gibran's letters are filled with wonderful, soul-touching passages that effective convey his ability to see what everybody else sees, and yet think what nobody else manages to. Every piece included in this collection has something special to say to both Ziadah and now, the twenty-first century reader. If you believe in truth, beauty, love and goodness as transcending all boundaries, you will adore this book -- if not, you will start to believe in them.
